Hi, I’m just planning to plan my honeymoon in Malaysia or Thailand; but thoroughly confused. Can any1 guide?

I want to spend some good time in a wonderful beach as well as take my wife to some nice urban town for her shopping desire. I would love if some1 can guide me which beach to visit; which hotel is top of the line; and where to shop

It depends on how long is your honeymoon.

If you plan to spend a few days at the beach, I would suggest Redang Island in Terengganu, Malaysia, the beach is beautiful and the water is crystal clear. For nearer to shopping heaven, Pangkor Island in Perak is not a bad choice. It is about 1-2 hours drive from KL. Most of the shopping complex are either within walking distance or very near to train station. Thus, it is very convenience. If you want to know more about Malaysia history, you might want to go to Melaka. It is about 2 hours drive from KL. There are many interesting museum for you to tour and delicious food for you to try.

About Thailand, I couldn’t give you any suggestion, sorry about that.

I don’t have personal experience in Thailand, but many of my friends have been, all for the purpose of partying and getting drunk.
I think that if you want more peace and quiet and romance ;) Malaysia is probably a better bet. While Pankor is nice, the more spectacular islands are on the East coast of Malaysia, with the most popular being Tioman, Redang and Perhentian. I went to Pulau Perhentian which was extremely laid back, beautiful diving and snorkelling and a lovely atmosphere. It’s also a great place to get a diving licence if you are interested with relatively cheap, PADI approved, 2-5 days courses. Although the East coast is not the most bustling part of Malaysia(it is more traditional, if that appeals, lots of big markets), a great way to get from KL(shopping central) to the East coast is on the jungle train that goes from KL to Kota Bharu, I think, and it take about a day or two.

Your other option, if you want truly amazing diving/beaches is going to Sabah, the Malaysian state in Borneo. This is home to Sipadan Island, widely recognised as one of the best diving sites in the world. However this is very out of the way, and sometimes prone to…pirates.

Also, just remembered! Langkawi is an island on the West Coast, near the Thai boarder and it happends to be duty free! I did’nt go myself but it does have lots of shopping and beaches. I was not keen because a)waaayyy to many tourists and b) the snorkelling isnt as good as the east coast. Probably more luxury resort type places there as well.
Hope that doesn’t confuse you more :)

Anyway, hope this helps, and congrats about getting married!
