How do I plan my honeymoon during hurricane season?

We want to go to Costa Rica. Wedding is in July 09′. I am scared that since its during hurricane season we wont have such a good trip. Has anyone planned a tropical honeymoon during hurricane season? How did everything turn out?

if you are worried about it plan it in a different place.

Costa Rica doesn’t get hit with that many hurricanes. You are more at risk if you plan something in the Caribbean. However to be perfectly honest - just don’t plan a honeymoon in a country that is at risk. There is a whole world out there to explore - Tahiti…Portugal…Argentina….Hawaii…New Zealand

We were in Belize when Hurricane Wilma went through. We were on the mainland more to the south (Jaguar Lodge to be exact - nice place). We had 2 days of slightly cloudy weather & any trips out onto the water were cancelled, so we just went inland to the Mayan Ruins & cave tubing. The sun shone most of the time but we did have a bit of rain. Was still warm though & we still enjoyed ourselves. We did our snorkling along the beach.

I got married in March, so it wasn’t during hurricane season, but If you are planning your honeymoon with a travel agent, you can get “insurance” on it. If the weather is bad, you can cancel and still get a refund.

Hope all works out!

Why don’t you plan your honeymoon somewhere else with a lower risk of hurricanes? You can always go to Costa Rica at another time…not hurricane season.

There are many tropical areas to chose from.

Good Luck!

Living in Miami, Hurracan spoil everyone’s fun…However, when you plan your trip, make sure you get insurance, specially if the tickets are not refundable. I find that will give you a piece of mind

It’s very unpredictable…you could get off scot-free or brag that you’ve lived through a hurricane. If you’re that concerned and still want to honeymoon somewhere tropical, go to Aruba, I understand it’s outsidet he hurricane belt.

June and July are the very beginning months of hurricane season. I have our honeymoon planned for the first week of July this year in the Carribean and our travel agent said we should be fine.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ has a bunch of information about hurricane seasons. If you’re set on Coasta Rica don’t settle for something else just because of weather….you can make it work with a little research.

To be honest, I would schedule a honeymoon elsewhere. You can visit Costa Rica during another time frame when there are no hurricanes. Visit a travel agent, as they are the specialists. He/she can guide you to decide on a perfect honeymoon for July!

Good luck!

There isn’t any way to plan for a hurricane. I looked it up, and there was one hurricane that hit Costa Rica in September 1993 and a second that hit in July 1996. The only way to completely avoid a hurricane is to go to a Pacific island, where there are no hurricanes or go to a more southern Caribbean island like Barbados, Trinidad or Tobago. They usually get missed by hurricanes & haven’t been hit by one in over 50 years. If you really want to go to Costa Rica, you’ll just have to cross your fingers. Chances are you will be fine. Good luck!

Either go somewhere else where there are LOTS of things to do indoors. Definately research your hotel to find out what indoor activities they have going on. If they don’t have much, pick another hotel. I went on a cruise once and our last day at sea we sailed through a hurricane. The ship didn’t make ANY special arrangements for things to do inside. We were bored out of our flipping minds. I wouldn’t want it to be like that for several days.

If you so worried about it either wait till after hurricane season is over then go, Or you can go up to the mountains that would be fun as well! :) Have fun & Good Luck !

I would make sure you get trip insurance so that in case there is a hurricane you’ll be reimbursed and can reschedule it at another time.

we are planning our honeymoon in sept 2010 so i am in the same positon. The best thing i think to have right now is weather protection plan. We want to go to either caribbean, jamaica, or costa rica. good luck.
