My husband and I plan to go to Thailand for our honeymoon Jan 16,2009. Will it be safe to travel by then?
We plan to stay in Bangkok for a couple of days and then go to Koh Samui and Puket. If anyone can give us advice about our trip it would be highly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

saftey first… i didn’t read the question.
No one can predict the future. Hopefully the protest will end but my gut feeling is that it will start up again. This doesn’t mean it’s not safe here for tourist. No tourist has been harmed because of the protest. Yes you could face some inconveniences like road blocks and airports being closed down. I hope not.
Good advice is Have fun and remember your tourist here. Don’t walk the beaches alone, don’t deal with drugs, don’t make a Thai person lose face, don’t disrespect the King at all, and don’t trust anyone that seems to be just a little bit too friendly. Smile and the Thai people will smile back at you.
So far during these past protests tourists have not been the targets. Tourists were inconvenienced but not directly assaulted.
If we could predict the future we would all be millionaires! What will happen in January – who knows? Keep in mind that if something comes up have a “plan B” in place on how to get back home. (For instance you can go to a nearby country and fly from there if things are not quickly attended to and your airline may switch the flight for you – for free!)
I had a flight back home scheduled on the first day of the protest at the airport. I got the idea right away that this was going to go on for a while and booked a train to Hat Yai and from there went to Butterworth and from there to Singapore via KL. My airline paid for the flight home from there. Made it back to my home country 8 days before the others left Thailand. (Had some business to attend to or I would stayed in Thailand.)
Don’t waste too much of your time mostly in beach areas. You can even get a tan in Bangkok or even Chiang Mai. Try to fit a visit into Chiang Mai if you can so you can see some of the things that make Thailand unique.
Good luck.
It’s safer than most places as Thai’ folk are very friendly and though they might have inconvenienced tourists with their protest they would never harm you, just go there and enjoy youselves the trouble is sorted out now and unlikely to start up again in the forseeable future. I’m going for the month of January and can’t wait… Hope to see you down Bangla lol
It’s safe now.
I am a fortune teller. It will besafe.
Must stay at a hotel near Patpong on Silom.
Then travel to Pattaya. Your husband will love you for being so thoughtful.
Seriously, it should be safe. Even when there is political tensions here, the foriegners are treated fairly well. That will be a great time to go to Samui and Phuket. Enjoy your trip.
surely safe… if they close airport in Bangkok just take a sprinter train to Krabi and take airplane from there.. about information try this website.. http://www.discovery-thailand.com got a lot of Thailand info that you would never get from guide book or other site.. also they offer lowest rate guarantee for accommodation too.. try and compare with other… hope this info would help you some… have a nice trip..
Congratulations firstly, and you made the right choice to have a GREAT honeymoon.
Protests are now finished, but they may be more later, but probably safe to the normal tourists if there is another demonstration it will probably target something other than the airport since the element of Surprise it what beats the other parties.
If I were to choose Krabi or Phuket I would choose Phuket, since there is more tourists and more Western foods if your not into Thai food.
